Sara and Her Sisters

January 21, 2017 @ 8:00 pm

The musical Itzig sisters form a direct human connection between the Bach family and the 19th-century Bach revival, passing on their love of baroque music to Mendelssohn, grandson of Bella Itzig, and Mozart, who lodged with Fanny Itzig in Vienna.
Tempesta plays music by Mozart and the Bachs—Johann Sebastian, Wilhelm Friedmann and Carl Philipp Emanuel—found in the collections of these three Jewish patronesses from 18th-century Berlin who link the Bach family and a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Felix Mendelssohn and the modern baroque revival.

CPE Bach: Selection from “Kenner und Liebhaber” collection
WF Bach: Trio Sonata for flute, violin, bc
Quantz: Quartet
