April 2011
Dear members of the Musical Fund Society:
Why do I give to the Musical Fund Society Foundation? Here are a few reasons:
American Composers Forum, Astral Artistic Services, Bowerbird, Community Conservatory of Music, Community Music School,
Dolce Suono Chamber Music, Lyric Fest, Mendelssohn Club, Network for New Music, New Sounds Music, Orchestra 2001,
Philadelphia Orchestra, Piffaro, Settlement Music School, Tempesta di Mare and Temple Music Prep.
These organizations all received grants from the Musical Fund Society this past year. In addition we support the Philadelphia Chamber
Music Society with a grant that helps sponsor the Community Series. AND we are able to encourage a new emerging young artist
each year with a significant award to help the beginning of a major career.
What better way to ensure the continued legacy of rich music making in Philadelphia than to contribute to the MFS Foundation.
Your contribution, no matter the amount, provides support to the ongoing work of the longest continuous operating musical
organization in the United States. Please consider this request and help maintain this tradition.
We enclose an envelope for your convenience. Or you may safely pay online at
musicalfundsociety.org/gifts.htm
and click on “Donate,” in just a moment you will have done your part to help schoolchildren, performers, composers, and educators,
all right here in the Philadelphia area. They are all depending on the members of the Musical Fund Society to come through.
You should feel very proud that this support takes place because of your support of the Foundation. We cannot fund every organization
that applies for an MFS grant, and last year less than half received grants from us. Wouldn’t it be nice if two or three more musical
groups could receive funding because of your support?
You and I joined the Society because we believe in the importance of music in Philadelphia. Our contribution to the Foundation makes
this commitment come alive.
Please take the time—now—to contribute to the musical life of Philadelphia.
Sincerely,
John French
President
Musical Fund Society Foundation
